Definition:- 

Fertilizer is a natural or synthetic substance which increase the fertility of the soil and supply essential nutrients for the growth of the plants. 

Components of Fertilizers:- 

The main components of the fertilizer include Potassium, Phosphorous and Nitrogen.

It is packed in sack and came into market for sell then farmer buy it and uses it in the agricultural field which helps in the growth of the plants.


 



Types of Fertilizers:-


1. Organic Fertilizer:- The fertilizers which can be formed by decaying organic matter such as animal waste, vegetable chops, sewage, etc. are called Organic Fertilizer.

2. Inorganic/Chemical Fertilizers:-  The fertilizers which is            manufactured in industries using various chemicals to fulfill the demand of organic fertilizers are called Inorganic/Chemical Fertilizers.

Difference between Organic and Inorganic Fertilizers.

Advantages of Using Organic Fertilizers
  • Improves water retaining capacity of the soil.
  • Makes the soil porous and exchange of gases become easy.
  • Increase the number of friendly microbes.
  • Improves the texture of the soil.
  • Plants get all the essential nutrients from the organic fertilizers.
  • Use of Organic Fertilizers make the healthy environment. 

Disadvantages of Using Inorganic Fertilizers:-

  • Slow to release soil nutrition.
  • Excess growth.
  • Harmful to soil.
  • Pollutes the environment by mixing with air, water, soil, etc.
  • Reduces the fertility of the soil.
  • Unhealthy crops and vegetables are produce when excessive amount of in-organic fertilizers is used.
  • They are expensive.

Fertilizer’s Impact On Human Health

Depending on the amount of fertilizer consumed, it may cause disturbances of the kidneys, lungs and liver and even cause cancer. This is due to toxic metals that fertilizers have. Fertilizers remove the nutrients of the soil, damaging the soil and the local environment. 

Fertilizers Used In Nepal:-

Mainly Seven types of chemical fertilizers are used in Nepal. They are Urea, Diammonium Phosphate (DAP), Muriate of Potash (MOP), Ammonium Sulphate (AS), Single Super Phosphate (SSP), Ammonium Phosphate Sulphate (APS), NPK. The use of Chemical Fertilizers has an increasing trend. Among them Urea and DAP are most used ones.
